History & Mission

United Nations Association of the USA, UNA-USA

Founded in 1946, the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) is a nationwide movement of more than 20,000 members across 200+ chapters advancing global cooperation and supporting the mission of the United Nations. As the UN works on the frontlines to defend human rights, advance peace, and address the world’s most pressing challenges, the UNA-USA chapters actively partner with schools, nonprofits, agencies, and businesses to educate, inspire, and mobilize communities to support the 17 Global Goals, the Universal Declarations of Human Rights (UDHR) and the UN to build a more just, sustainable, and peaceful future for all.

UNA-USA East Bay Chapter

Since 1955, our East Bay Chapter has been a driving force for connection, education, and advocacy in our community. Run entirely by volunteers, we are dedicated to promoting and advancing the mission of UNA-USA and the 17 Global Goals / Sustainable Development Goals in the East Bay. Together with our members and partners, we host engaging events, join in cultural celebrations, uplift youth leaders, and advocate with heart and purpose to our local and national representatives.

In 2025, we received the UNA-USA Community Chapter of Excellence Award in recognition of our commitment to advancing the mission of UNA-USA. This honor reflects our excellence in service, education, advocacy, and leadership through a range of impactful programs and events, including our advocacy initiatives, UN Flag Raising Day, UN Day/Global Citizen Awards, and youth leadership scholarship program.
