Poverty devastates families, communities and nations. It causes instability and political unrest and fuels conflict."

About the Walk/Run

happy runners General Information

This run and walk is a fundraiser for the East Bay Chapter of the United Nations Association-USA and for the World Food Program. UNA-USA is dedicated to promoting Peace through international cooperation led by the United Nations. Your registration fee will enable us to educate the local community and youth about critical issues faced by humanity and our planet, such as climate change, the roots of terrorism, and how the United Nations is leading the world's 192 nation states towards cooperation in solving these problems.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Friends of the World Food Program for the UN's World Food Program, which must independently raise its own budget. It is the world's largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide. In emergencies, it gets food to where it is needed, saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. After the cause of an emergency has passed, they provide food to help communities rebuild their shattered lives.

The Course

5K and 10K run or a 5K walk: certified course at Cesar Chavez Park, Berkeley Marina. The flat, easy, primarily asphalt course winds around Cesar Chavez Park (5K) and on the East Bay Shore Trail to Gilman and back to Cesar Chavez Park (10K). There will be water stops along the course. There will be beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and the Berkeley Hills.

There are three main race categories: 10K run, 5K run, and 5K walk.
