PROGRAMS
MONTHLY DINNER FORUMS
Introduced in May 2009, the Monthly Dinner Forums feature a dinner followed by a speaker/facilitator discussing topics selected for their current international significance and participants interests. Usually the focus is on a particular country or an issue of global significance affecting international cooperation and the United Nations. They are open to members and nonmembers and held in East Bay restaurants. Reservations are required. Check the Chapter website for a list of upcoming Forums.

FLAG RENTAL PROGRAM
Large Flags The Chapter maintains a set of 192 large flags (5' x 3') in size, 191 members states of the United Nations + United Nations flag) for rental to add background and color to local events. The set includes 191 poles and approximately 120 stands (stands recommended for indoor use only). A rental contract must be completed by the renter prior to the dispensing of flags. |

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - MARCH 8
The Chapter has organized educational and advocacy programs in Berkeley and other East Bay communities in recent years to raise awareness and support for gender equality, women's rights, and UN activities that respond to the needs of girls and women. In 2010 a program was co-sponsoted with I House, UCB focusing on women's health and reducing maternal mortality.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE - SEPTEMBER 21
The Third Annual Peace Forum was organized in 2011 by the Chapter and Graduate Theological Union with 35 other co-sponsors including peace, interfaith, academic and women's groups. Keynote speeches and interactive breakout sessions about the Paths to Peace enhanced awareness about opportunities for action.
RUN/WALK FOR PEACE
Every September a 5k/10k Run/Walk is held at Berkeley Marina, Cesar Chavez Park. Proceeds support the Chapter's education programs and the UN World Food Program. The 13th Annual Run For Peace was held on Saturday, September 24, 2011.

TRICK OR TREAT FOR UNICEF

Every Fall elementary, high school, and college students collect funds to support UNICEF programs. Information and collection boxes are available through the UNA East Bay Center. Volunteers are available to make classroom presentations. |
UNited Nations DAY- October 24

The UN's birthday is observed on October 24 by chapters across the United States. Every year the East Bay Chapter holds a celebration at Jack London Square in Oakland with a Parade of the Flags by 193 UN member governments by the Junior ROTC and a UN flag-raising ceremony. In addition, the chapter has a UN Day Dinner program including presentation of the Global Citizens Awards at the International House in Berkeley. The awards are a chapter initiative to recognize iindividuals and organization whose exemplary international activities have reduced poverty and helped fulfill the United Nations Development Goals. HUMAN RIGHTS DAY - december 10
Each year the chapter observes International Human Rights Day on December 10. Chapter programs bring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into interactive programs in East Bay high schools. In 2010, the Chapter put on three interactive assemblies involving 250 Berkeley High students in Universal Declaration of Human Rights lively exercises.
