MATERIALS AND SERVICES FOR EDUCATORS
UNA-USA East Bay Chapter has a long tradition of promoting educational
activities that increase understanding and awareness of the UN,
its related agencies (especially UNICEF) and their many programs.
We work with elementary and high schools, colleges and universities,
and with service and community groups.
The Chapter is a sponsor of the UNA-USA
National High School Essay Contest and coordinates with teachers
for Trick or Treat for UNICEF. We can assist teachers wishing to
start Model UN programs or organize simulations for them. Teachers
may use the UNA East Bay Center as a resource and check out education
kits. UNA-USA educators are available to help teachers develop materials.
In addition volunteers can facilitate classroom programs.
The UNA East Bay Center is a repository of curricular materials
and lesson plans. The Center Library receives a limited number of
UN and agency publications, some of which are also for sale. The
Center also loans UN-related films to educators free of charge.
UNA-USA East Bay will provide speakers, organize workshops, and
show films for interested groups.

Our newest addition are 5 UN Kits, which include 4 books, 1 to
keep, 2 posters to keep, pamphlets, and a UN flag to keep. An excellent
short video of current UNICEF education projects in Afghanistan
is included. These Kits are targeted for upper elementary/middle
school, but may also be useful for teachers of grades 9-12.

VIDEOS
The Center's video shelves contain a substantial collection
of videos and DVDs, including UNICEF films depicting their projects
for children, a high school teaching series on topics such as Human
Rights, Peacekeeping & the U.N. (with study booklets), Introduction
to Model U.N., a video of a mock Security Council session performed
in class, and UN-produced videos such as the Annual Years in Review
and A Tour of the UN.
There is a TV/VCR on site for previewing the videos. Videos loaned
at no charge to teachers.
MODEL UN CLUBS
Many high schools have Model UN Clubs whose members attend regional
Model UN conferences to participate in mock UN sessions. Members
are assigned a particular country, and authentically act as ambassadors
from that country.
Information on how to start a Model UN Club is available at the
Center. University MUN students are available to assist high school
groups.
